I just got a call from mine. She left a light on all night sleeping in her car at camp and the battery died. She got a jump but “it wont rev”.
“are you in park?”
“yes”
“can you drive if you put it in drive?”
“yes”
“No problem. it wont let you rev in park”
“it also says VCS disabled, did I break it?”
“No vcs is traction control, you probably just hit the button with your leg”
“Should I rev it for a while? I have to go up a hill and I don’t want it to die on me.”
“um...no, just let it idle for a while.”
“So it wont die on the hill?”
“no, once its going you will be fine to drive it, even on hills.”
“should I leave the jumper cables on or just drive it.”
“no mom, take the jumper cables off and let it idle for while.”
Mothers.
similar car to one in question.

Actually I think if it is a hard reset the VCS needs a short drive to test and go off, and the throttle must have recalibrated itself.
But try explaining that to ma dukes...

Funny story; I actually know that’s exactly what needs to happen, but it was easier for me to say the thing I said for time.

My mother and I both have BMW Z4s. Mine is a 2007, her’s is a 2005. She drives her Z4 every day, mine is a weekend car.
She calls me while I’m at the airport coming back from Canada.
Mom: I had to replace the battery in the Z4.
Me: Ok. I had to do that too, while I was driving from Naples to Atlanta no less.
Note: the battery wouldn’t accept a charge anymore, so everything was running off the alternator, which wasn’t so bad other than the freerunning clutch. Idiot Germans...
Mom: So how do I set the clock?
Me: Umm...what?
Mom: How do I set the clock?
Me: How should I know?
Mom: You own one!
Me: I own 4 different cars! They are all different! Have you tried looking in the manual?
Mom: Why would I do that? You would know this type of thing.
Me: I also am the type of person that keeps the car on a battery tender so I only have to do this *once*.
Mom: So you don’t know?
Me: It’s not about knowing, it’s about being able to locate the information. Do you have your iPad in front of you?
Mom: Yeah...
Me: There’s a wonderful thing out there. Open Safari and go to www.google.com and type in “Set 2005 BMW Z4 clock”.
Mom: Really funny, smartass.
Me: Also, did you wonder why the dealer didn’t reset the clock for you when they replaced the battery?
Moms...
